A broken image is an image on your page whose file returns an error. Visitors see an empty block or a broken image icon.
Why it matters
A missing image makes a page look unfinished and can hide the information the image carried. Google Images cannot show it either.
How Snaglist checks it
Snaglist fetches every image that is used in the HTML of your pages and lists each file that returns 400 or higher, or no answer, together with a page that uses it.
Common causes
The file was deleted from the media library
The site moved to another domain and image addresses still point to the old one
A CDN or image optimisation plugin that serves a wrong address
Hotlinked images from another site that are gone
How to fix it
Check whether the file still exists in the media library.
Upload it again or pick a replacement.
Update the image address in the page, block or template.
After a domain move, replace old image addresses in the database in one go.
Find this on your own site.
Snaglist runs this check and 43 others on every page of your site, every week. 14 days free, no credit card needed.
