PHP version is almost outdated

Your PHP version stops getting security updates soon.

Why it matters

A version without updates stays open to every new hole that is found. Moving takes time, because old plugins sometimes break on it, so it helps to know early.

How Snaglist checks it

Snaglist reads the PHP version when the server shows it, and looks up the end date in its own list of PHP versions. From 120 days before the end you see this notice, after the end the warning for an outdated version.

Common causes

  • A hosting package that does not update PHP by itself
  • A site that was never moved because everything still worked

How to fix it

  1. Ask your hosting party which newer versions are available.
  2. Try the new version on a copy of the site.
  3. Update plugins and the theme first, then move.

How it shows in the report

In the report for your client this appears under the heading "Your PHP version will soon stop getting updates". When everything is in order, the report says: "Your PHP version still gets updates for now".
