Image with empty alt

This image has an empty alt attribute. That tells screen readers and Google the image is only decoration. That is right for ornaments, but not for images with content.

Why it matters

If the image shows a product, a person or information, visitors with a screen reader miss it, and Google Images cannot describe it.

How Snaglist checks it

Snaglist lists every image in the HTML whose alt attribute is present but empty, with the page it is on.

Common causes

  • A theme that sets an empty alt on all images
  • The alt field was left empty in the media library

How to fix it

  1. Check whether the image carries meaning.
  2. If it does, describe it in one short sentence.
  3. If it is only decoration, the empty alt is correct.
