Brand name written differently

The brand name is written in a different way than the standard: other capitals, an extra space or a hyphen. GYMbyJay, GymbyJay and Gym by Jay on one site.

Why it matters

A brand is recorded once and then slowly drifts. Readers see carelessness. Search engines and AI assistants build a picture of a business from its name, and different spellings make that picture blurry. At one gym, the old site used one name in the title and another in the logo files.

How Snaglist checks it

Snaglist looks for the brand name in the title, H1, H2, meta description, og:title, og:site_name, alt texts and body text of every page. It ignores capitals, spaces, dots and hyphens while searching, so it finds every variant, and skips email addresses, web addresses and hashtags. The standard is the brand name on the site page, or otherwise the spelling that appears most.

Common causes

  • A page written by someone who did not know the official spelling
  • Text copied from an old brochure or an old site
  • A name change that was not carried through everywhere
  • Capitals typed in the text instead of set in the styling

How to fix it

  1. Fill in the brand name on the site page in Snaglist.
  2. Change each variant in the list to the standard.
  3. Also check the menu, the footer and image alt texts.
  4. Agree on one spelling with everyone who writes for the site.
