Font outside the brand

The site loads or uses a font that does not belong to the brand, or a page contains text pasted with its own font.

Why it matters

Two fonts are two truths. A font that crept in through a plugin or a pasted paragraph makes the site look less like one whole. Pasted text from Word is the most common case: the editor looks fine, the page does not.

How Snaglist checks it

Snaglist reads the font-family rules and @font-face declarations in the stylesheets and counts the first font of each rule. Fallback fonts, system fonts and icon fonts do not count. It also reads the style attributes in the content of every page, where pasted text keeps its own font and Word leaves mso codes. Without brand fonts on the site page, fonts outside the three most used are reported.

Common causes

  • Text pasted from Word, Google Docs or an email
  • A plugin that loads its own font
  • A theme default font that was never replaced
  • An old Google Fonts link that stayed in the header

How to fix it

  1. Fill in the brand fonts on the site page.
  2. For pasted text: select the paragraph and choose Clear formatting, and paste as plain text from now on.
  3. Remove fonts that a plugin or old link loads.
  4. Check the page again after the next crawl.
