Crawl depth above threshold

Crawl depth is the number of clicks from the homepage to a page. By default, Snaglist flags pages that need more than four clicks.

Why it matters

Pages deep in a site are crawled less often and receive less internal link value. Visitors rarely get that far either.

How Snaglist checks it

Snaglist starts at the homepage and records for every indexable page how many clicks it takes to get there, along the shortest route.

Common causes

  • Long pagination in a blog or shop
  • Deeply nested categories
  • Pages that are only linked from other deep pages

How to fix it

  1. Link important deep pages from the menu, the homepage or an overview page.
  2. Add related links between posts or products.
  3. Flatten the category structure where possible.

Find this on your own site.
