Orphan page: in sitemap, no internal link

An orphan page is a page that is in your sitemap but has no internal link from any other page. Visitors cannot reach it by clicking, and Google sees it as unimportant.

Why it matters

Internal links show Google which pages matter. A page without any is often crawled less and rarely ranks well, even when its content is good.

How Snaglist checks it

Snaglist starts from the homepage and follows links, and also reads the sitemap. Pages that it only found through the sitemap and that receive no internal link are listed.

Common causes

  • A page that was removed from the menu but still exists
  • Landing pages for campaigns
  • Old posts without links from newer content

How to fix it

  1. Decide whether the page is still needed.
  2. If so, link to it from a related page, the menu or an overview.
  3. If not, remove it or redirect it, and take it out of the sitemap.
