Error

Empty page

An empty page answers with status 200, so the address works, but the server sends back no content at all. Visitors see a white screen.

Why it matters

Google has nothing to index and treats the page as broken. If the address is in your sitemap or in the menu, you send visitors and Google to a dead end that does not even look like an error.

How Snaglist checks it

Snaglist reads the HTML of every page that answers with 200. A page whose HTML is empty, or only contains comments, is listed once as an empty page instead of as a page without title, description and H1.

Common causes

  • A taxonomy or archive without its own template in the theme
  • A PHP error that stops the page before any output, with error display switched off
  • A plugin that registers a page type but does not render it

How to fix it

  1. Open the address and check which template should build it.
  2. If the page should exist, add or repair the template.
  3. If it should not, add a 301 redirect to the best page and remove it from the sitemap, or set noindex on that page type.
