Warning

Meta description missing

The meta description is the short text under the headline in Google. Without one, Google picks a piece of text from the page itself, which is often not the best summary.

Why it matters

The description does not change the ranking, but it does change how many people click. A good one tells the searcher why this page answers the question.

How Snaglist checks it

Snaglist reads the meta description of every indexable page and lists the pages that have none.

Common causes

  • The description field of the SEO plugin was left empty
  • A template that does not output a description
  • Pages created in bulk

How to fix it

  1. Write one or two sentences that summarise the page and invite a click.
  2. Keep it roughly between 70 and 155 characters.
  3. Start with the pages that get the most impressions in Search Console.
