Title too long

A title that is too long is cut off in the search results with three dots. By default, Snaglist flags titles longer than 60 characters.

Why it matters

What falls off the screen is not read. If the important words come at the end, the visitor never sees them.

How Snaglist checks it

Snaglist counts the characters in the title of every indexable page and lists titles above the threshold, with the title and its length. Google measures in pixels, so the number is a guide, not a hard limit.

Common causes

  • The site name and a slogan added to every title
  • Keywords stacked in the title
  • Long product or article names

How to fix it

  1. Put the subject at the front.
  2. Shorten or drop the site name at the end.
  3. Remove repeated or stacked words.

Find this on your own site.
