Incomplete Open Graph

Open Graph tags decide what a link looks like when it is shared on LinkedIn, Facebook, WhatsApp or Slack. Snaglist checks for og:title, og:type, og:image and og:url, and whether og:url matches the canonical.

Why it matters

Without them, a shared link shows a random image or none, and a weak headline. A shared link is often the first thing people see of your brand.

How Snaglist checks it

Snaglist reads the Open Graph tags of every indexable page. It lists pages that miss one of the four tags, and pages whose og:url points to another address than the canonical.

Common causes

  • No default share image set in the SEO plugin
  • A page builder that overrides the tags
  • An og:url that still points to an old domain

How to fix it

  1. Set a default share image for the whole site.
  2. Give important pages their own image and title.
  3. Make og:url match the canonical address.
  4. Check the result with the LinkedIn Post Inspector or a similar tool.

Find this on your own site.
