NoticeWith Search Console

Indexed but not in the sitemap

Google has indexed this page, but it is not in your sitemap. Google found it some other way.

Why it matters

That is not harmful in itself, but it means your sitemap is incomplete, or that pages are indexed that you did not plan to have in Google.

How Snaglist checks it

With Search Console connected, Snaglist compares the indexed addresses with the addresses in your sitemap and lists the indexed ones that are missing from it.

Common causes

  • A sitemap plugin that leaves out some post types
  • Old pages that still exist
  • Parameter or filter addresses that Google picked up

How to fix it

  1. Add pages that should be found to the sitemap.
  2. Set pages that should not be in Google to noindex, or remove them.

Find this on your own site.

Snaglist runs this check and 43 others on every page of your site, every week. 14 days free, no credit card needed.
