Meta description too short

A meta description that is too short leaves space in the search result unused. By default, Snaglist flags descriptions shorter than 70 characters.

Why it matters

A description of a few words does not convince anyone and is often replaced by Google with a random sentence from the page.

How Snaglist checks it

Snaglist counts the characters of the description on every indexable page and lists the ones below the threshold, with the text and its length.

Common causes

  • Only the page name or a slogan as description
  • A placeholder that was never replaced

How to fix it

  1. Describe what the visitor will find and why it helps.
  2. Aim for one or two full sentences, roughly 70 to 155 characters.
