H1 missing

The H1 is the main heading of a page. A page without one has no visible headline that tells visitors and Google what it is about.

Why it matters

Visitors scan the heading first to see if they are in the right place. Search engines and screen readers use it to understand the structure of the page.

How Snaglist checks it

Snaglist counts the H1 headings on every indexable page and lists the pages that have none.

Common causes

  • A page builder that uses styled text instead of real headings
  • A theme that makes the logo the only H1, and only on the homepage
  • A hero image with the heading inside the picture

How to fix it

  1. Add one heading that says what the page is about.
  2. Make it an H1 in the editor or template, not just large text.
  3. If the heading is part of an image, add it as real text.
