More than one H1

This page has more than one H1 heading. The page then has several main headings, and it is less clear what it is mainly about.

Why it matters

Search engines cope with it, but a single clear H1 makes the structure easier for visitors, screen readers and AI tools that summarise the page.

How Snaglist checks it

Snaglist counts the H1 headings on every indexable page and lists the pages with more than one, with the second H1 and the total.

Common causes

  • A theme that uses H1 for the logo and again for the page title
  • Sections in a page builder that each start with an H1
  • A slider with an H1 per slide

How to fix it

  1. Keep one H1 for the main subject of the page.
  2. Make the other headings H2 or H3, depending on their level.
  3. Fix it in the template if every page has the same extra H1.
