ErrorWith Search Console

Sitemap page not indexed by Google

This page is in your sitemap, but Google has not indexed it. You offer the page, but it does not appear in the search results.

Why it matters

Pages in the sitemap are the pages you want to be found. When Google skips them, they bring in no visitors from search at all.

How Snaglist checks it

With Search Console connected, Snaglist asks Google for the index status of every address. Pages that are in the sitemap and are not indexed, and do not fall under crawled but not indexed, are listed with the status Google gives and the last crawl date.

Common causes

  • Google has not yet visited the page
  • Google found a duplicate and chose another address
  • A noindex, a redirect or a canonical elsewhere
  • Little or no internal linking to the page

How to fix it

  1. Read the status Google gives in the list.
  2. Fix what that status points to: noindex, canonical, redirect or duplicate.
  3. Link to the page from relevant pages.
  4. Request indexing in Search Console once the page is ready.
