Thin content

A page with thin content has very little readable text. By default, Snaglist flags indexable pages with fewer than 200 words.

Why it matters

A page with little text gives Google little to understand and visitors little to go on. Many thin pages lower the overall impression of a site.

How Snaglist checks it

Snaglist counts the words in the readable text of every indexable page and lists the pages below the threshold, with the word count.

Common causes

  • Category or tag pages without introduction
  • Pages that mainly consist of images or a form
  • Placeholder pages that were published

How to fix it

  1. Add text that answers the questions of the visitor on this page.
  2. Merge small pages about the same subject into one.
  3. Set pages that do not need to be found to noindex.

Find this on your own site.
