IndexNow is not on

Why it matters

With IndexNow search engines hear straight away that something changed. Bing passes it on to Copilot and search in ChatGPT, so it also counts for being found in AI answers.

How Snaglist checks it

Snaglist checks whether a key file for your site has been confirmed. From outside it cannot see whether a plugin already does this.

Snaglist reports this as a notice. It costs 5 percent of the page in the health score. Good to know, and sometimes a deliberate choice.

Common causes

• The key file has not been created yet
• The key file was removed from the site

How to fix it

1. Open the page of your site in Snaglist.
2. Under IndexNow, create the key file and put it on your site.
3. Have Snaglist check it. After that it reports new and changed pages after every crawl.

How it shows in the report

In the report for your client this appears under the heading "New pages are not reported straight away". When everything is in order, the report says: "Snaglist reports new and changed pages to Bing".
