Site seems to stand still

Your newest post is more than a year old, or the footer shows an earlier year.

Why it matters

A visitor who sees an old date wonders whether the company still exists. It is a small signal, but a very visible one.

How Snaglist checks it

Snaglist reads the publication dates of your posts and the year next to the copyright in the footer of the homepage. A site without posts is not reported on the date. In January the previous year is still fine.

Snaglist reports this as a notice. It costs 5 percent of the page in the health score. Good to know, and sometimes a deliberate choice.

Common causes

  • A blog that stopped after a busy period
  • A year typed into the footer by hand
  • A theme that does not update the year

How to fix it

  1. Publish something new, or remove the dates if posts are not tied to a moment.
  2. Let the year in the footer update by itself.

How it shows in the report

In the report for your client this appears under the heading "Your site seems to stand still". When everything is in order, the report says: "Your site looks up to date".
