Warning

Leftover from a template

Something from the template or the system is still on the site: Lorem ipsum, Hello world, a sample page, an unfilled variable or the default icon.

Why it matters

It is a small thing that says a lot: a visitor sees that the site is not finished. A variable in an address also makes for an ugly address that Google may index.

How Snaglist checks it

Snaglist looks in titles, descriptions, H1s and the text of every page for the best known placeholder texts, in addresses for variables such as %category%, and at the favicon.

Snaglist reports this as a warning. It costs 15 percent of the page in the health score. Fix it before your next crawl.

Common causes

  • Sample content that came with a theme or a new install
  • A page builder template with placeholder text
  • A permalink variable that gets no value, such as a missing primary category

How to fix it

  1. Open the page from the list.
  2. Replace the text or remove the page.
  3. Set whatever fills the variable in the address.
  4. Upload your own favicon.

How it shows in the report

In the report for your client this appears under the heading "Leftovers from a template on your site". When everything is in order, the report says: "No leftovers from a template found".
